The "How To Get Rid Of Cat Urine Smell" Nightmare
Removing Cat Urine Smell And Stains Can Drive You Crazy... Do You Want To Know How I Did It?
Everything started when my daughter came home with a cute, fluffy cat her father had given her for her birthday. I have never had a pet and the idea of having one didn't appeal to me at all. I'm a very smell sensitive person and I was really afraid of my house becoming a cat smelling place - and I didn't know about cat urine smell yet -, but Tommy (the cat) was so adorable that I couldn't say no. Everything was right until next morning. I got up and on my way to the kitchen I smelled a pungent odor coming from the carpet...
Tommy had forgotten to use his litter box! I ran to the kitchen, got soap, hot water, and a brush and started to vigorously brush the stain, trying, in vain, to get rid of it and the cat urine smell. After washing it with almost everything I found in the kitchen counter, the stain and the odor were still there.
My First Try. The Old Home Made Remedy To Get Rid Of Cat Urine Smell
I called my sister, who used to have a cat, and she told me a home made remedy to remove cat urine smell that seems to work for her, but unfortunately not for me.
The Vinegar and Baking Soda Formula and Other Remedies
Mix two parts of water with one part white vinegar - Vinegar will neutralize the ammonia in the cat urine.
Apply the vinegar and water solution on the urine spot and let it sit and start to work.
Blot it up with a clean cloth, let it dry and repeat if necessary.
Once it is dried, sprinkle some baking soda and vacuum after 8h.
Baking soda seems to help remove the cat urine smell. But it didn't work fo rme.
I went to the pet store and bought a special cat urine smell and stain removal product. It didn't work either. Desperate, I decided to look for a solution on the internet and found lots of different people telling different things.
I tried some of the home remedies they recommended (including using Listerine mouth wash) without any luck. I couldn't completely remove the stain and the odor was still there.
What seems to work for one person doesn't work for another. Maybe this is because different surfaces require different solutions or because different cats have different urine. I don't know.
Getting Serious and Looking For More Effective Solutions To Get Rid Of Cat Urine Smell
The thing is that I was going nuts. I couldn't get rid of the cat urine smell and, what is worse, Tommy kept missing the litter box.
I went back to the internet and found that many people were talking very good about a couple of cat urine smell removal products: Urine-Off, Get Serious, and Urine-Out.
Desperate as I was, I ordered them all and, while I was waiting for my delivery, I kept searching online. Among more-of-the-same information I saw something that grabbed my attention.
The Secret Remedy To Get Rid Of Cat Urine Smell
Someone was selling online a book that revealed an easy recipe to make your own cat urine smell removal product. At first I was a little skeptical, but their money back guarantee convinced me.
I downloaded the ebook, made the recipe and tried it on a fresh urine stain.
For the first time, I had found something that worked. After some serious scrubbing, the stain and the cat urine smell were gone.
I was so happy that I forgot that Tommy could miss the litter box again (what he of course did) and to ask myself why was my cat peeing all over the house instead of using the litter box.

| Urine-Out has the particularity of being a dry cleaning product. I was specially worried about the stain in my sofa. I was afraid of damaging it by using a strong product so that I decided to try with Urine-Out. The cleaning system is a combination of two products, but it is easy and fast to apply. I used it to remove the stain and the cat urine smell from the sofa as well as old stains on the carpet I found with the black light. And believe me, the results were amazing. The stain and the cat urine smell disappeared fast and easily with just one application and never returned. I bought the basic stain removal system and it was enough for me. They also have other kits for hard surfaces such as tile or concrete and for heavier stains. Learn more about how to remove cat urine smell with Unire-Out. Besides completely get rid of the stain and the cat urine smell, Get Serious does a great job removing the pheromones in the urine stain so that your cat will not mark again. This make it a great choice if you have problems with your cat spraying indoors. |
Urine Off also did a good job. I tried it in old stains and it removed effectively the cat urine smell and the stain, but only after being applied twice. Another downside is that you must apply a pretty large quantity of product and let it work for several hours in order to completely remove the stain and the odor, what makes it less fast than other products. Another thing I didn't like was the citrus scent it left behind, but this is a very personal opinion. Other people may find it pleasant. |

Conclusion
Even though the secret formula to get rid of cat urine smell that the ebook reveals did the job efficiently, I think that the commercial products, although more expensive, are more convenient, specially for some people (like myself), who don't have the time or the patience to mix the products and do some serious scrubbing in order to get rid of the car urine smell.
From the three products I tried, the one that I personaly prefer is Urine-Out.
- It does a stunning job removing the cat urine smell and the stain, easily and fast.
- It is a dry cleaning product, what makes it safe for not water-friendly surfaces.
- If you have really serious cat urine stains to remove, they have an even more powerful set of products, some of them specially designed to remove cat urine smell and stains from hard surfaces, such as tiles or concrete.
- They also have an addittional product to remove the masked odors that can attract your cat to re-urinate or spray on the same spot again.
